Things are changing at a break neck pace in recent years. Time has sped up and the world has grown smaller with the age of technology and computers taking hold. Personal cellular phones have taken over the landscape of communication, but a need remains for the POTS (plain old telephone service).

Being a convenient way of getting in touch with people makes cellular technology a huge hit amongst just about everyone on the globe. Life is immediate with information and communication being nearly instant these days. No technology is perfect however, and cell phones have more than one drawback.

The more standard telephones have a huge benefit as an emergency utility. Any cordless phone will need a power source to function. Corded land lines can be used even in a power outage.

A cell phone can be used for emergency purposes as well, but with a power loss the battery life of personal communication devices becomes a danger. Most cell phone batteries have a few days at best of power. In a real bad situation a few days is not a long time to be without electricity. Thus making anything needed power worthless in many ways.

The POTS can also be a home base for keeping track of friends and family. It is good to have a central point for the family to gather and share a common household utility. Something that anyone can reach a member of the household with, and any member of the household can use to keep in touch with the world.

A plain home telephone will always be a staple of good living. It is a safety device and a communication hub all at the same time. Keeping people united in more ways than one is something to be appreciated. Life moves ever faster and things change more quickly than ever which makes a stable home number better idea than it has been in the past. Being in the book has its advantages.
